In general, the focus of the parents and schools are to ensure the students gets the maximum exposure to the academics.   Lot of them  get exposed to  extra curricular activities  like sports,  quiz and annual day celebrations.   May be  a few  get exposed to training on  the  "skills of  successful life".

JCI  India  has a mission to impart  knowledge to  high school  students on how to develop their  life skills towards effective successful life.  One  such  program is  "Empowering  Youth"  under which the JCI  chapters are encourage to conduct the  training to  students from the following  topics.

  1. Goal Setting
  2. From ME to US- Leadership
  3. Skill of Decision Making
  4. Shooting out the Stage fear - Effective Public Speaking
  5. Time Management or Self Management ?
  6. Managing Exam Stress
  7. The BOND -Building Effective Relationships
  8. Career Guidance/Counseling – for higher classes
  9. Positive Mental Attitude
  10. Know Thyself –The Miracle of Self Analysis
  11. Standing out
  12. Train your Brain

  14. Boost your memory

JCI Bangalore Horizon  conducted its very first Empowering  youth program at Sai Shankar Vidyashala.   We were not very sure how these topics will be  received from the students since such topics are not part of their  curriculum.   We  were  very surprised that the students were  very eager to participate in discussions and to learn  all these skills too.   We  will be glad to roll out many such  programs in the  future.

ZTWS - 2013

Program:  Zone Trainers Work Shop (ZTWS)

Place :  Hotel Royal Fort,  Bellary
Host:  JCI Bellary Steel city

“You cannot teach a man anything. You can only help him discover it within himself"
--Galileo Galilei

If your  first impression becomes the best impression, everything else becomes easy. On 6th morning we got from the train with the thoughts about getting autos to reach the venue.

What got the attention of us was just 4 letters written on a paper and held overhead.  "ZTWS".   Yeah.  The host were waiting there to pick us up.   What a great way to start!. Later we learnt that, it was our zone 24 host Jc Thirumala who did that magic to us. We  met host President Jc Damodhar and few other hosts there.

From that moment, till we came back on Sunday night to the same railway station, we  were taken care every minute.

Even though we had so many sleepless nights, if we go to the hall in the night for some dissuasion or preparation with our friends,  our hosts will also be there.    They could have made arrangements, given their phone numbers and gone back to sleep, But they stayed back with us. ZVP Jc Rajabakshi Sir,  ZVP Jc Prakash Sir, Jc Thirumala and many more were  present there talking to us, helping us. Their very presence meant a lot to us.

This kind gesture gave us lots of  motivation to do well.

The  four day training program under the pilot ship of Jc K Krisha Murthy Sir along with co-pilots Jc Alakananda Madam and Jc Jaychand Bafna Sir involved so many inputs, activities, output sessions which kept us fully occupied and brought out the best from us.

The faculty team also ensured that we kept our mind cool with physical exercise, yoga and meditation sessions in the mornings.

Before every major output session,  Jc  K Krisha Murthy Sir and Jc Jaychand Bafna Sir helped us to relax through wonderful music and other techniques.

We had good time mingling with other participants working us teams and pairs and helping each. It had given us many new friends too.  There was a sangama of Tamil(Zone17) and Kannada (Zone14, 24) happening.

Thanks a lot to JCI for such an insightful program.
